Everything you need to know before you travel.

What is the Costa Verde Express?
The Costa Verde Express is a restored 1920s-style luxury tourist train that travels the 'Green Spain' coast of northern Spain on a 6-day, 5-night journey between Bilbao and Santiago de Compostela, in both directions, through the Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia.
How much does the Costa Verde Express cost?
Fares start from around €5,000 per person in a double Gran Clase Suite, and €9,000 for single occupancy, all-inclusive. The fare covers the suite, full board, all guided excursions, drinks and onboard entertainment. Contact our official reservations office for current 2026 availability.
What is included in the price?
All-inclusive: accommodation in a Gran Clase Suite, full board with gourmet dinners at restaurants along the route, all guided excursions and entrance fees, onboard drinks and entertainment, and a coach that follows the train for excursions.
What is the route and how long is the journey?
It is a 6-day, 5-night journey between Bilbao and Santiago de Compostela, running in both directions (eastbound and westbound on alternating departures), with stops and excursions in Santander, Santillana del Mar, the Picos de Europa and Covadonga, Llanes, Oviedo, Gijón, Cudillero, the Playa de las Catedrales and Ferrol.
When does the Costa Verde Express operate?
The train operates seasonally, roughly May to October, when Green Spain is at its most beautiful. Departures alternate direction week to week. Most departures sell out six to eight months ahead, so early booking is recommended.
How big is the train and how many guests?
The Costa Verde Express carries a maximum of 46 guests in 24 restored Gran Clase Suites — an intimate scale, the opposite of a large cruise ship. Each suite has an en-suite bathroom with a hydromassage shower and a convertible day-to-night layout.
How is the Costa Verde Express different from El Transcantábrico?
Both travel Green Spain's northern coast. The Costa Verde Express is a 6-day Bilbao–Santiago journey with comfortable Gran Clase suites at an accessible luxury price. El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo is the longer 8-day San Sebastián–Santiago journey with larger suites and a higher price. The Costa Verde Express succeeded the retired 'classic' Transcantábrico.
Do you sleep on the train while it moves?
Generally no. The train travels by day for the scenery and excursions and is parked at quiet stations overnight, so guests sleep without motion. Suites are private and fully en-suite.
Is it suitable for international travellers?
Yes. We are the official authorized booking and information source, with English- and Spanish-speaking specialists, pricing in your currency, and help coordinating flights and extra nights in Bilbao or Santiago.
