Every week someone asks the Palace Tours desk whether they need a dinner jacket on the Costa Verde Express. (No.) Here is the packing conversation we have with guests, condensed.
The golden rule: layers over outfits
The Cantabrian coast can serve mist, sunshine and a shower before lunch — that changeability is exactly why the region is so green. A light waterproof, a jumper, and clothes you can add and shed will beat any single 'perfect' outfit.
Feet first
Cobbles in old towns, boardwalks at Covadonga, damp harbour stones — bring walking shoes you have already broken in. This is the single most repeated regret we hear.
Evenings
Smart-casual carries every dinner; one slightly dressier option for the farewell evening is plenty. Nobody has ever felt out of place for lacking a tie on this train.
The small stuff that matters
European plug adapter, sunscreen (the Atlantic sun deceives), swimsuit for hotel stops, medications in original boxes, and a soft bag rather than a rigid case — cabin storage is clever but not infinite. Cross-check timing with our best-time guide, and anything else, ask via the FAQ or a Palace Tours specialist.
