Guests send Palace Tours their favourite frames after every season, so we know precisely where this route gives up its best pictures. Save this list to your phone.

Rule one: know your sea side

Heading west from Bilbao, the Cantabrian Sea rides on the train's right; eastbound from Santiago, the left. Lounge-car windows are widest, but the gangway ends catch the track curving into frame on the tight coastal bends.

The five frames guests print

Luarca's harbour from the lighthouse road in evening light — white houses stacked like theatre seats. Playa de las Catedrales at low tide only; check the tables first (our guide explains). Covadonga's basilica against the Picos, morning mist optional but frequent (Picos guide). The train on a viaduct — crew announce photo stops; be ready. Praza do Obradoiro at blue hour, granite glowing after rain.

Kit for the green coast

A polariser tames Atlantic glare, weather sealing (or a humble plastic bag) earns its keep, and the shape-shifting skies mean you should never delete a 'grey' day — that light is the region's signature.
