Near Ribadeo in Galicia, the Playa de las Catedrales is a wonder of erosion: at low tide the Cantabrian Sea retreats to reveal arches and buttresses up to thirty metres high — corridors of rock you can walk beneath, named for their likeness to a Gothic cathedral.
Timing is everything: the beach can only be explored on foot at low tide, which the Costa Verde Express plans around. It is one of the most photographed natural sites in Spain and a quiet highlight of the Galician leg.
